Patience & Compassion

(Read all the way to the bottom even if you are not doing Master Level Inspirements)
Now that the whole family is doing the Core Inspirements together do at least Journeyman level also.

Core:
Study and learn from the Core Inspirements for the Family with your family

Journeyman:
I would strongly encourage you to do all of these for this level. They really build on each other and will make our time together most beneficial.

  1. Do a word study for patience and compassion, at a minimum look up the definition in a diction. If you really want you understanding to be even deeper and have even more impact, look them up in a couple of dictionaries, including my favorite, the Noah Webster 1828 dictionary; visit lds.org and/or BYU Speeches and search these words to find articles to read or listen to; and other uplifting source to enlighten and inspire you.
  2. Ponder and record, what weaknesses could you overcome by applying these principles?
  3. Pray to be able to identify a situation in you life when someone has had patience or compassion. Also, pray to recognize a time when you can apply one of both of these principles.
Master:
After you have experienced all of the above, if you are ready for more, study from the following:
  1. Learn about Abraham Lincoln's whole life, don't limit yourself (-;. Why do you think he is a good example of patience and compassion?
  2. Do you feel the statement "Patience and compassion can only arise from the experience of difficulty" is true? Ponder and come prepared to explain.
  3. How can your life experiences assist you in having greater patience and compassion?
  4. Think of an activity, game or video for us to watch together in class that drives home either or both of these principles. Let Sister Tyler know in advance of Wednesday, so time can be allotted and recourse available.

  3. Come prepared to share, in someway, something that you are grateful for through poetry, music, art piece, photo of a person, food, activity, object, etc.
Master
  1. President and Sister Oaks presented at RootsTech 2018 Family Discovery Day. If you can take the time to watch all (44 minutes) of this DO IT!, but if not, then skip to these times 12:07-13:55 the Oaks granddaughter shares about cousin parties; 13:55-18:21 an ancestor celebration; 21:10-26:10 youth and family history; 26:35-27:18 tell me a story family book.
  2. What do you feel prompted to do to celebrate, remember your ancestors life to show gratitude for them?

*See how many gratitude prompts from the link above that you can record this month. Bring your journal or notebook at the end of the month, to show me how many you recorded, for a reward.

  1. In your Young Men Duty to God read "Spiritual Strength" "Understanding Doctrine" Learn and Act. Even if you have completed this in the past do it again now. (I have linked to Deacons but it is the same for Teachers and Priests) For our purposes study "The Priesthood and Priesthood Keys".

    Journeyman:
Before working on level 2 do level 1; then work on the following:
    1. Do a word study for "genius".
    2. Type or hand write a list of some of your natural abilities? Add to this list things you seem drawn to, very interested in? Ask a parent, other family member, and close friend what they would add to the lists.
    3. Choose a skill to work on developing that relates to something on your list. Include in your writing what you are working on. You are welcome to bring something to teach or show us related to this.

    Master:
Before working on level 3 do levels 1 and 2; then work on the following:

    1. Read in "True to the Faith" "Patriarchal Blessings
    2. Read this great article that helps answer questions about patriarchal blessings such: How do I know if I'm ready? How can I prepare? How old do I have to be for a blessing? and many others.
    3.  If you haven't received your blessing, prayerfully consider if now is the time to receive yours; if you have received it, prayerfully read it and note things in there that are pointed out about your personal, specific divine nature and missions.

Begin reading “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho

Those that read this are invited to a book discussion with food. Comment in the notes if you are going to participate. You would need the book finished by the end of January.
